Eagle Women’s Basketball Adds Washington Native Steve Lowe to Coaching Staff
It seems almost like fate. After coaching for more than seven years under two former Eastern assistants, Steve Lowe follows suit as the new assistant women’s basketball coach at Eastern Washington University, announced Friday (July 1) by head coach Wendy Schuller.

Julie Piper and Matt Martin Tabbed as 2011 Big Sky Scholar-Athlete Award Winners
Julie Piper of the women’s basketball team and Matt Martin from the football squad were selected as Eastern Washington University’s recipients of the Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athlete Award for the 2010-11 school year. The Scholar-Athlete Award honors the "best of the best" of the conference's nearly 3,000 student-athletes.

Women’s Basketball Lends a Hand at Special Olympics Spring Games
The Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team recently enjoyed a weekend full of Olympic activity right here in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles volunteered at the Special Olympics Spring Games May 6-7. The Spring Games is an annual event that serves Special Olympians from 20 different counties throughout Central and Eastern Washington.

Evans Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Senior Kyla Evans of the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball squad has had her sights set on graduate school for quite some time. She completed her undergraduate degree from Eastern in just three years, and then enrolled in business classes while competing in her final season for the red and white. This dedication and commitment to academics, as well as her contributions on the court and throughout campus, were recently recognized by the NCAA.

40 Selected to Winter All-Academic Team
A total of 40 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for winter quarter 2011. Of the total, 14 were from the men's track and field team, 14 came from the women's squad, seven were from women's basketball and five men's basketball players were honored.

A second-half scoring barrage by No. 1 seeded Portland State sunk the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team on Friday (March 11) in the semifinals of the 2011 Big Sky Conference Championship. Sanchez, Cooper Selected as March Scholar-Athletes
Junior Julian Sanchez of the Eastern Washington University men’s tennis team and junior Chene Cooper from the women’s basketball squad were selected as EWU’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for February. Sanchez, an international student from Ciudad Real, Spain, holds a 3.51 cumulative grade point average in business administration/economics. Cooper, a 2008 graduate of Lakes High School in Puyallup, Wash., has a 3.28 GPA in criminal justice.

Although heading into the final two weeks of the regular season, Eastern has yet to face two teams in the Big Sky. For the first time this year, the Eagles will take on their foes from the Treasure State in the upcoming week. Cooper Lays Claim to Big Sky POW Honors

Q and A: December Scholar Athlete Tatjana Sparavalo
Senior Tatjana Sparavalo has helped make a name for the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team. During her freshman season, Sparavalo and the Eagles won only four games. Piper Named to Omni Hotels Classic All-Tournament Team
Julie Piper of the Eastern Washington University women’s basketball team was selected as one of five standout players for the 24th Annual Omni Hotels Classic All-Tournament Team. Piper averaged 15.0 points per game in the two games played in Boulder, Colo., on Nov. 26 and 27. She shot an impressive 52 percent from the field over the weekend and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

Eastern Washington women’s basketball senior Julie Piper has been selected as one of 30 candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.The 2011 women’s candidate class includes five players who were CoSIDA Academic All-Americans last year, 22 student-athletes with grade point averages of 3.0 or better, four players who participated in the 2010 Women’s Final Four and 15 players on the preseason watch list for the John R. Wooden Award.

Eagles Tabbed Second in Big Sky Preseason Polls
The Eastern Washington University womens basketball team was picked second in the 2010-11 Big Sky Preseason Media and Coaches Polls, announced Thursday (Oct. 21) by the conference office. Eastern, who finished the 2009-10 season with a 19-12 overall record and the top mark in the league at 12-4, garnered 53 total points in the coaches poll, including two first-place votes, while the panel of media gave EWU 159 total points with six first-place tallies.

EWU-PSU to Play for the Dam Cup
The Portland State Vikings and Eastern Washington Eagles will begin a five sport rivalry cup called The Dam Cup in 2010-11. The Dam Cup will celebrate the friendly rivalry between the states of Oregon and Washington within the Big Sky Conference.

44 Selected to Winter All-Academic Team
A total of 44 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for winter quarter 2010. Of the total, 16 were from the women's track and field team, 16 came from the men's squad, seven were from women's basketball and five men's basketball players were honored.

Schuller Given Four-Year Contract Extension
Eastern Washington Universitys Wendy Schuller has been given a four-year extension to her contract to remain as head coach of the womens basketball program at EWU, head coach Bill Chaves has announced.
