Senior captain expected to repeat as All-Big Sky First-Team selection
Brianne Ryan of the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team was honored as a preseason All-Big Sky First-Team selection by College Sports Madness.
Ryan will return as a senior captain this season after celebrating a highly successful 2010-11 campaign. Ryan was one of six elite players named to the All-Big Sky First-Team last year, and was also a Big Sky All-Academic team member.
In Big Sky Conference play, Ryan led the league in minutes per game (35.8), and was third in scoring (15.9/game) and field goal percentage (.508). She also excelled on the defensive end, averaging 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, which ranked 11th in the conference.
She scored in double figures in all but four games of the 2010-11 season, and turned in the single-best offensive performance of all players in the Big Sky with a career-high 33 points on 14-of-18 shooting against Sacramento State on Jan. 22.
Along with Ryan, College Sports Madness has given preseason first-team honors to Portland State's Eryn Jones, Idaho State's Chelsea Pickering, Montana State's Rachel Semansky and Northern Colorado's Lauren Oosdyke. Jones was tabbed as the preseason Big Sky MVP, while Portland State coach Sherri Murrell was honored as the preseason favorite for the BSC Coach of the Year.
Complete Big Sky Preseason polls will be released Oct. 18.
Eastern will return three starters, including Ryan, and six other letterwinners from last year's squad that earned a 13-18 overall record and 8-8 mark Big Sky. Eastern also welcomed back two redshirts, and added five newcomers. The Eagles will make their season debut on Nov. 6 with an exhibition game against Warner Pacific at 1:05 p.m. on Reese Court.
