Senior captain scores 30 points en route to weekly conference honor, as Eagles return to Reese Court tonight to face undefeated Oregon State
For the first time in her already decorated career, senior Brianne Ryan was selected as the Big Sky Player of the Week, announced Tuesday (Nov. 22) by the league office. Ryan was an All-Big Sky First-Team selection in 2011, and was named the Big Sky Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2010.
Ryan, a product of Lynden, Wash., had a remarkable performance on both ends of the floor to lead Eastern to a 68-57 victory over San Diego last Thursday (Nov. 17). Her all-around effort was highlighted by 30 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the floor, which included three 3-pointers.
She scored nearly half Eastern's total points in the game to become the first player in the Big Sky this season to reach the 30-point scoring mark.
Ryan's effort against USD was just three points shy of her career-high of 33, which she set last year versus Sacramento State on 14-of-18 shooting.
In addition to her offensive contributions against the Toreros, Ryan also led all players on the glass with nine rebounds. She also had three assists, one steal and one block, while playing a game-high 38 minutes.
"Brianne played a great overall game," said head coach Wendy Schuller. "She is a workhorse. You see part of it in the box score with her 30 points and nine rebounds, but Brianne is also our best defender in terms of one-on-one defense. She is a player who will just go and go and go."
The Eagles will return to action tonight when they host Oregon State (4-0) at 6:05 p.m. on Reese Court. Click HERE for updated game notes.
