The Eastern Washington women's basketball team continues its home stand with a nonconference game versus WAC member Idaho Saturday, Dec. 14. Tipoff time is set for 7 p.m. in Reese Court.
Fans with ticket stubs from that day's football NCAA FCS quarterfinal playoff game will be given free admission into the women's basketball game.
The series between Eastern and Idaho is the longest-running nonconference series in EWU history. Saturday's tilt marks the 53rd meeting between the programs.
Eastern (1-5) is coming off a convincing 20-point win over Cal State Northridge last Friday, Dec. 6. After missing the last two games, senior Laura Hughes came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points in just 15 minutes of action. She made eight of nine field goal attempts and finished a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Junior Lexier Nelson was equally impressive, finishing with 13 points, six rebounds and a career-best seven assists.
Sophomore Hayley Hodgins was the third Eagle in double figures against the Matadors, scoring 15 points while burying a trio of three-pointers. She did a solid job on the boards, as well, pulling down six rebounds, four of which came on the offensive end.
As a team, Eastern has been prolific from three-point range this season. EWU is shooting 33.0 percent from downtown through six games, a mark that ranks second in the Big Sky. The Eagles are making an average of six three-pointers per game, good for third in the league. Eastern made 11 triples versus SMU back on Nov. 8, just three shy of the single-game record.
Idaho (6-4) are led by Stacey Barr (16.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg) and Alyssa Charlston (13.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg). The Vandals are shooting 37 percent on the year and 29 percent from long range. They are averaging 68 points per game while giving up an average of 61.8 points per game. UI's turnover margin is a +1.2, but the Vandals get outrebounded by an average of 0.7 boards per game.
