Liz Rizza is in her second season as an assistant coach for the Eastern Washington women's basketball program, joining the team prior to the 2013-14 season. Her primary responsibilities include team travel, recruiting, and video operations while assisting with post player development and academic support.
Rizza was most recently an account executive for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, where she solicited corporate sponsorships, developed business partnerships, sold season and group tickets and booked entertainment for prime time and half time.
Prior to joining the Sparks, Rizza was the head coach of Dana Hills High School's JV squad and an assistant coach for its varsity team during the 2012-13 season. She spent the summer of 2012 as a camp director for Pepperdine's elite individual, team, and kids camps.
Rizza spent the 2011-12 season as a coaching intern at Stanford under Tara Vanderveer, traveling to the Final Four with the Cardinal. Her duties included conditioning, team practices and planning, supporting marketing, video exchange, videographer of practices and games, recruiting database management and the administration of individual and team camps.
Rizza received her master's degree in parks, recreation and resource management at Slippery Rock in 2010, where she served as a graduate assistant coach. She earned her bachelor's degree in communication television production in 2007 from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after which she became an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Grinnell College for one season in 2008-09. While at Grinnell, she was tasked with identifying top recruits with three-point shooting skills as well as working with guard development and as a defensive specialist.
The San Jose, California, native graduated from South Eugene High School in Eugene, Oregon, in 2003, where she earned letters in basketball and track. Rizza earned second team all-league honors in basketball as a senior and qualified for the state track meet as a sprinter.
In addition to her coaching experience, Rizza brings experience as a senior television news producer for a cable company in Iowa.
Rizza currently lives in Spokane and enjoys traveling and working out. She is also a proud member of AAUW.
