Coach Janis Beal arrived in Cheney last season after finishing a remarkable career with the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds. The Lovell, Wyo., native averaged 8.3 points per game in her two seasons at the Cedar City, Utah, school and acted as team captain as a senior. In 2003-04, she helped lead the squad to the most wins in school history (18). Following the 2004-05 season, Beal was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII First Team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America. On the court, she was named Second Team All-Mid-Continent Conference. Prior to arriving at SUU, she played for Northwest College. In her freshman year at the Powell, Wyo., school she placed second nationally in points per game with an average of 23.6. As a sophomore, Beal was named the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference (WCCAC) Player of the Year. Both years, she was named to the Kodak All-America team. Beal earned a bachelor's degree in physical education at Southern Utah in 2005 and is currently working on her master's degree.
