The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team was defeated by UC Irvine on Friday (Nov. 30), as the Anteaters put together a 9-0 scoring run spanning both halves in downing the Eagles, 68-57.
Setting the pace in assists was Jessica Huntington, who had nine, tying the Eagle season high (she also had nine on Nov. 22). Evans had three steals in the contest, the second-highest total by an Eagle player so far in 2007-08.
The Eagles outrebounded UC Irvine in the contest, 47-40, but were hurt by 28 turnovers (to UCI's 14).
The game was relatively close throughout the first half, as neither team went up by more than seven points. The Anteaters, meanwhile, extended their advantage in the early going of the second half to 13 at 41-28. That concluded a 9-0 run by UCI.
Later in that stanza, Eastern cut the advantage to four at 45-41 but UC Irvine responded with three straight baskets to push its edge back up to double figures, at 54-43 with 9:08 remaining. The closest Eastern Washington would get the rest of the way was eight.
The Eagles return to action with the middle contest of its three-game homestand on Sunday (Dec. 2) with a 2:05 p.m. contest against Utah State (0-5).
