Eastern Cruises Past Corban College 96-57

Senior guard Joanna Chadd scored 24 points to lead four players in double figures as Eastern Washington University cruised past Corban College 96-57 in a non-conference women's basketball game Friday (Nov. 17) at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash.

Eastern is now 3-0 on the season and is off to its best start in 20 years. The Eagles host nationally-ranked Washington on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Reese Court. The Huskies are ranked 23rd but lost Friday to Purdue. Corban College fell to 2-2.

Chadd, the Big Sky Conference co-Defensive Player of the Year last season, made 6-of-9 three-point attempts and 9-of-14 overall from the field. She also had four steals.

Eastern made 12-of-30 three-pointers in the game, including three by Leah Gonnella, who finished with 15 points and four assists. Brittney Osborn added 13 points and Nicole Scott had 12.

Sydney Benson chipped eight points, two blocked shots and a game-high 11 rebounds. Phynique Allen and Jessica Huntington each finished with six assists.

The Eagles held Corban to 29.8 percent shooting from the field while making 45 percent themselves. Eastern had a 58-39 rebounding advantage and forced 23 turnovers.

Eastern trailed 2-0 and the game was tied 16-all with 9:49 left in the first half. Corban was within six points at 29-23 before the Eagles out-scored the Warriors 21-7 in the last four minutes of the half to take a 50-30 lead at halftime.

The closest Corban came in the second half was 17 points, and Eastern's largest lead of the game was 41 with one minute to play.
