Eagles Take 15th in Abbreviated Bison Challenge

Third round at Paiute Golf Resort cancelled due to high winds

Due to windy conditions at the Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas, Nev., the Eastern Washington University women's golf team was only able to complete two of three rounds at the inaugural Bison Challenge. The final day of competition on the Snow Mountain Course was cancelled because high winds were causing balls to move and roll off the greens. As a result, standings after 36 holes were official.

With a cumulative team effort of 675 (342-33), the Eagles took 15th out of 18 total teams. Eastern did finish ahead of fellow Big Sky member Idaho State, who recorded a total score of 702 (352-350).

Junior Jayme Carbon led the Eagles in Las Vegas with her two-round total of 166 (82-84). She tied for 47th on the individual leaderboard.

Fellow junior Morgan Lee shot an identical score in the first and second rounds to finish tied for 60th with a total score of 168 (84-84).

Sophomore Sara Callagy shaved 11 strokes off her first-round effort to hit an 80 in the second round, which was the best score of the entire day for an Eagle. Her total score of 171 (91-80) was good for a share of 74th place.

Senior Neddy Martinez also improved from the first to second round, as she carded an 88 on the first 18 holes and 85 on the second.

Freshman Caitilin Rice, who led EWU in its previous tournament, struggled a bit in Las Vegas, finishing tied for 88th with a two-round total of 175 (88-87).

Oral Roberts won the event with a 36-hole score of 614 (309-305). Crystal Reeves of Oral Roberts and Northern Iowa's Brittany Atterbury shared individual medalist honors with matching scores of 152.

Eastern will return to the links next Monday and Tuesday (March 26-27) for the Butler Spring Invitational in Avon, Ind.
