Junior Eva Yoe had her team's top round of the tournament Tuesday (Sept. 19) as the Eastern Washington University women's golf team placed third at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational in Corvallis, Ore. The tournament was hosted by Oregon State University at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
Eastern had a 64-over-par total of 964 strokes in the three-round tournament. Eastern remained unbeaten against Big Sky Conference competition as Portland State finished 14th -- nine strokes behind the EWU. The Eagles are now 6-0 in head-to-head competition against Big Sky foes.
Yoe, a transfer from Santa Monica College who is formerly from Hong Kong, closed the tournament with a two-over-par 74 on Tuesday. She finished the tournament in 24th with an 11-over-par total of 227.
Nelson was last week's Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week after finishing third at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The Eagle sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada, had rounds of 76, 84 and 76 in Corvallis. She had rounds of 70, 71 and 74 in Fort Collins.
Denver coasted to a 16-stroke victory. The Pioneers' Stephanie Sherlock claimed the individual title by two strokes.
The next action for the Eagles is at the Inland Empire Women's Intercollegiate at Hangman Valley Golf Course in Spokane, Wash., on Sept. 25-26.
