Eagle Golf Improves to 7-1 Versus Big Sky Schools
Sept. 30, 2008
The Eastern Washington University women’s golf team went a perfect 4-0 versus Big Sky Conference rivals to move to 7-1 against league schools so far in 2008-09 when the squad placed 15th at the CU Heather Farr Memorial Invitational in Broomfield, Colo. The tournament was contested on Monday (Sept. 29) and Tuesday (Sept. 30).
The Eagles (921, 308-305-308) were able to outlast Montana State (17th), Portland State (t18th), Weber State (t18th) and Northern Colorado (20th), as well as Western Athletic Conference-member Hawai’i (16th). Portland State had claimed The Bulldogs and Eagles Invitational crown on Sept. 23, a tournament in which Eastern Washington placed fourth.
The most steady play from an Eastern player in this two-day tournament came courtesy of Marli Mikulecky, as she shot a 218 (75-73-70) to tie for 20th place in the individual rankings. She was followed by Kristina Gargaro’s 230 (76-79-75), a score which placed her in a 59th-place tie.
Rounding out the Eastern golfers were Chloe Nelson (t85th, 236, 80-74-82), Kylie Ray (t96th, 242, 81-80-81) and Ines Pantoli (100th, 247, 77-79-91).
The tournament was hosted by the Omni Interlocken Resort Golf Club.
Eastern Washington will be back in action next week, as the Eagles will take part in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational from Monday-Wednesday (Oct. 6-8) at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.
