The Eastern Washington University women's golf team played with several top-level teams at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and finished 16th in the 18-team field. The Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown was played from Monday-Wednesday (Oct. 29-31) at Angel Park Golf Club, and the field included 10 teams ranked in the top 30 nationally.
She was followed by junior Chloe Nelson, who finished in a 71st-place stalemate with a 233 (75-79-79), junior Marli Mikulecky, who tied for the 73rd slot with a 234 (77-75-82), and freshman Kellie Holmstedt, who placed 87th with a 246 (82-84-80).
Denver won the tournament by 11 shots with an 858 (285-285-288). That total was six below par.
Eastern Washington was the only Big Sky Conference team to participate in the tournament. The Eagles have gone 14-0 against league schools so far in 2007-08.
Idaho and Washington were the only other Pacific Northwest schools to take part in the prestigious tournament. The Vandals finished tied for 12th with a 913, while the Huskies were 14th with a 917, just two shots ahead of the Eagles.
The Eagles have now concluded their fall season and will start up the spring campaign right back in southern Nevada at the UNLV Spring Invitational from March 10-12. That tournament will take place at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder Creek, Nev.
