Tight Race Expected in Big Sky Golf
Feb. 12, 2009
Prior to what is expected to be a very competitive spring season - and Championship event in April - the Big Sky Conference women's golf coaches have given nearly half of the conference teams at least one first-place vote in the league's preseason poll.
The Eastern Washington University team was picked fourth after earning one first-place vote and 45 points. Defending Big Sky champion Northern Arizona was selected first (59 points, five first-place votes), while the Lumberjacks were followed closely by Portland State (53 and two), Sacramento State (50 and one) and the Eagles.
The lower half of the poll saw these teams follow, in order: Montana (36 points), Northern Colorado (35), Montana State (20), Weber State (17) and Idaho State (8).
The Eagles kick off the spring portion of their schedule at the Anteater Invitational, to be played from March 30-April 1 at the Dove Canyon Country Club in Dove Canyon, Calif., located in southeastern Orange County.
The Big Sky Championship event will, for the first time, be hosted by Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz. That event will be contested from April 20-22.
