Eastern honored for ninth-straight time with the Team Academic Award
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has honored the Eastern Washington University women's soccer team with the Team Academic Award for the ninth consecutive year.
Eastern posted a 3.24 grade point average for the 2008-09 school year, with the award given to squads with a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Two other Big Sky Conference schools were recognized: Northern Arizona (3.41 GPA) and Portland State (3.10).
"We are extremely proud of our players both on and off the field," said head coach George Hageage. "To compete at the highest level in your sport and maintain a team GPA of 3.2 or better is very impressive."
In that impressive nine-year span, Eastern's best academic performance came in 2002, when the team's GPA of 3.50 placed the squad second in the NCAA Division I ranks and 10th overall.
