Goalkeeper will help lead the Eagles in the Big Sky Tournament this weekend
Lisa Dimak of the Eastern Washington University women's soccer team was named the Co-Player of the Week for the Big Sky Conference after posting her fourth shutout of the season on Friday (Oct. 30) in a 1-0 away win over Montana. The result allowed the Eagles to finish second in the Big Sky this season.
The award is the second of the year for Dimak and is the third earned by an Eastern player, as defender Chelsey Hannesson attained honors on Oct. 19. Dimak's previous POW honors were earned on Oct. 12. After having not won the award since Oct. 29, 2007 (Jessica Blessard), the Eagles have done so in three of the past four weeks.
In Eastern Washington's win over Montana, Dimak helped organize a defense that only allowed the Grizzlies to make two shots on goal, which she saved. She shared this week's honors with Idaho State defender Christina Beseris.
All four of Dimak's shutouts have come in Big Sky play and the effort of herself and Eastern Washington's defensive line have been pivotal in helping the Eagles to a second-place finish in the league this season with a 4-2-1 record.
Dimak's four shutouts this season also place her one away from the school record of five, set by Tiera Como in 2004. Dimak's four career shutouts (all this year) are tied for fourth-most in EWU annals.
Eastern Washington (7-8-2) will take on Idaho State (9-7, 4-3) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 6) in Portland, Ore., in a Big Sky semifinal. The title game, featuring the winner of that contest as well as the victor in a Northern Arizona-Portland State contest on Friday, will start at 11 a.m. on Sunday (Nov. 8).
