After two competitive matches, the Eastern Washington University women’s soccer team is hungry for its first win. The Eagles will have two opponents this weekend, as they travel to Air Force on Friday (Aug. 31) to take on the Falcons at Cadet Soccer Stadium at 3:30 p.m. PST. Two days later, the team will head north to Laramie, Wyoming for a match up against the Cowgirls at the Lois S. Madrid Sports Complex at 12 p.m. PST (Sept. 2).
The Eagles will face the Falcons for only the second time in school history. The two teams met in 2011 at the Bronco Invite in Boise, Idaho. The Eags gained a 2-0 lead against Air Force in the first seven minutes of play, but were unable to hold onto the lead in the second half, conceding three goals for the 3-2 defeat. Eastern will look to settle the score on Friday in Colorado.
Air Force is currently 2-1-1 on the season, securing wins against Lamar University and defending Big Sky conference tournament champion Montana.
Based on an early-season schedule quite similar to the Falcons, Wyoming holds a 3-1 record. The Cowgirls lost their season opener to Montana, 2-0, but recorded a win against Weber State last Sunday (Aug. 26). They also beat Lamar and Montana State-Billings.
Wyoming owns a 5-0 all-time record against Eastern, including a 2-1 victory in 2011. The Cowgirls are led by sophomore forward Sara Paul, who recorded a team high eight goals in 2011 and has added two more goals already this year.
