Women’s Soccer Honored with NSCAA Team Academic Award

Eagles among top 25 academic teams in the nation

For the 11th-consecutive season, the Eastern Washington University women’s soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the pitch. To qualify for the award, teams must post a minimum team grade point average of 3.0.

This year, a total of 504 college women’s soccer teams earned the award, including five from the Big Sky Conference.

Of those five Big Sky schools, Eastern boasted the highest ranking. The Eagles were in fact among the top 25 academic teams in the entire nation with a team GPA of 3.50.

EWU is also the only Big Sky school to have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for 11-straight seasons.

In 2011, EWU had 18 players named to the Big Sky All-Academic team - the most for any soccer team in the league. The 2012 All-Academic teams will be announced at the conclusion of the fall quarter.
