Despite having two road games within the next week, the EWU women's soccer team will be staying fairly close to home with matches at Idaho and Gonzaga.  The Eagles take on Idaho Friday evening at 4 p.m. in Moscow, Idaho, then return home for a longer-than-normal break before making the short jaunt to Gonzaga Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.

Both foes are familiar to the Eastern program.  The Eagles are facing the Vandals for the 17th time in program history and the Bulldogs for the 20th since the program was founded in 1998.  EWU has played both teams at least once in each of those years since, with the exception of Idaho's absence from the 2003 schedule.

Eastern has fared well against the Vandals over the past decade. Beginning in 2004, the Eagles compiled five straight victories over Idaho, then dropped three matches against them between 2009 and 2011.  Last season's game, held at Eastern's home facility, saw the Eagles break their three-match skid and come away with a 2-0 victory.

Unfortunately, EWU hasn't had the luck with their near-crosstown rivals for the forseeable past. Gonzaga has had the Eagles' number since 2002, compiling 11 straight victories in the interim. However, the Eastern squad, riddled with veteran experience, is poised to turn the tides against a Bulldog team that has seen a relatively slow start to their 2013 season at 1-3-0.

One added benefit to playing Gonzaga on Tuesday is the familiarity the Eagles will bring to the contest.  EWU is playing Gonzaga for the second time in under a month, something that hasn't happened since 2000 and is occurring for just the fourth time in series history.
