Big Sky Conference play opens all around the league this weekend, and EWU is starting its slate with trips to Pocatello, Idaho on Thursday and Ogden, Utah on Saturday for matchups with Idaho State and Weber State, respectively.
Coming off its best all around showing of the year with a 3-0 shutout with over North Dakota State on Sunday, the Eagles are hitting the conference schedule at just the right time. With momentum built up thanks to a prolific offense led by EWU all-time goals co-record holder Cassie Black and a stalwart defense led by junior goalie Nathalie Schwery, the Eagles look to build on a 3-3-3 conference record from 2012.
Leading off the weekend will be Eastern's matchup with the Bengals. The Eagles have never won in Pocatello, going 0-6-1 in seven games at ISU's home pitch, so Thursday's game could serve as a statement win for a hot EWU squad. Eastern returns one of its goal scorers from last year's game in Black, while Bengal Amanda Ellsworth returns to try and replicate her score last year against Eastern. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Pacific time.
The short trip down I-15 to Ogden will follow for the Eagles, where they look to make three wins in a row on Weber State's home field dating back to an Oct. 9, 2009 victory over the Wildcats. The Eagles have also won three of the last four games against their conference foe, despite dropping last year's matchup 1-0. Thus far in 2013, Eastern hasn't defeated a team who has come into the contest with a winning record, so consider this match to be another opportunity for the Eagles to make a statement with a victory.
