The Eagles' trip to Big Sky Country this weekend marks the final road contest of the season as they prepare to take on Montana Friday in a match at South Campus Stadium in Missoula. Eastern is still looking for their first road conference win of 2013, despite having won two nonconference games earlier this year.
EWU's history with the Grizzlies has been largely feast or famine, considering all but two of the 16 meetings between the schools have been shutouts. Montana holds the 10-5-1 advantage in the series and has won the last three years, but in 15 years neither team has won more than three times consecutively.
Eastern hasn't scored a goal against the Griz since 2009, which incidentally was their last win in the series, but in games where they register at least one goal against Montana, EWU's record is 5-1. The Eagles have scored more than one goal just twice in the series, in 2007 and 2008, both of which were wins, while the Griz have accomplished the same feat six times, but only thrice since 2001.
Behind all-time goals leader Cassie Black, the Eagles hope to bounce back after two unfortunate road losses at Northern Colorado and North Dakota last weekend. Black currently leads the conference in shots (23) and shots per game (3.83) during Big Sky play and is looking for her 19th career goal after a two-game scoring drought. Junior Katie Cashman and senior Katy Allen have also been playing remarkably well of late, while junior and single-season assist record holder Haley Stading has seen a resurgence after a midseason slump.
