The Eagles kicked off practice at Roos Field today
The Eastern Washington women's soccer team started practice today (Aug. 7) at Roos Field and began preparations for the upcoming 2014 season.
After a successful first day of practice head coach Chad Bodnar stated, "The work rate was great today. We're all excited to get going. Everyone worked really hard but we still have a long way to go".
Today's practice comes a day after the Big Sky preseason coaches' poll was released. The poll slated the Eagles this year as tenth in the conference. Bodnar commented on the poll by saying, "We can keep that in the back of our minds as where people think we are and the only way we can prove them wrong is by going out and getting results".
He also commented on the newcomers to the team by saying, "Our team is fresh and new. Nobody has any expectations for us except for ourselves. I see that as a positive thing for us".
The Eagles have started the year with 13 new players in addition to 11 returning letter winners. Senior forward Cassie Black commented on the first practice by saying, "It's nice to have all the new girls out here together as a team".
Eastern is looking forward to next week and its exhibition match against Gonzaga. The game takes place on Thursday, Aug. 14, in Spokane.
