Senior Eastern forward Cassie Black receives Preseason All-Big Sky Second Team honors
Senior forward Cassie Black has been named a College Sports Madness Preseason All-Big Sky Second Team selection, the website announced Wednesday (Aug. 6).
This is Black's second career preseason All-Big Sky honor from College Sports Madness, having earned preseason first team honors a year ago. She received Honorable Mention All-Big Sky honors following the Eagles' 2013 campaign
Last season, Black played in every game while achieving an excellent four goals, which lead the team. Along with her goals, she took 53 shots, 23 of which were shots on goal. She also earned eight points on the season with a shot on goal percentage of .434.
After the 2013 season Black, moved up the rankings in career points (38; 3rd) and shots (118; 4th) and became the program's all-time leader in shots per game (2.27). During the 2013 year, Black's 53 shots registered as the third-most shots in a single season in program history. The total was also a career high for Black, breaking her previous personal best of 45 in 2012, and her eight shots in Eastern's final game of the season is tied for the EWU single-match record.
Weber State's Mackenzie Harrison was selected as the preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Portland State's Caitlin Plese and Laura Schott received Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. Additionally, Montana freshman Madison Adams was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year.
The Eagle's preparations for the 2014 season are already underway for the first match-up of the year next week at Gonzaga on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 5 p.m.
