The 2014 season for the Eastern Washington women's soccer team begins against Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield.
The Eastern Washington women's soccer team will look to start the 2014 season strong with a pair of non-conference road matches against Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield. The Eagles take on the Bulldogs on Friday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m. before facing the Roadrunners on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 3 p.m.
The Eagles' season opener follows two exhibition games against Gonzaga and Washington State last week. First year coach Chad Bodnar took the preseason games as an opportunity to evaluate players in game time situations and to continue implementing his play style.
Fresno State finished last year with an overall record 10-8-2 taking second in the Mountain West Conference. EWU and Fresno State were matched up a season ago with the Bulldogs winning in overtime 3-2 despite goals from Cassie Black and Alisha Stott.
Eastern will then take a drive south on I-5 to compete against CSU Bakersfield Sunday. The Roadrunners' previous year finished with a final record 3-8-1 and a conference standing of sixth in the Western Athletic Conference. CSUB leads the all-time series with a record of 2-1-1, and it's been four years since the two were paired against one another.
Eastern will play its first six matches on the road, hosting their first home match on Friday, Sept. 26 against Big Sky foe Idaho State.
