The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team lost its home opener to Gonzaga University, 2-0, in Cheney, Wash., Sunday (Sept. 9). The Eagles are now 1-2 and the Bulldogs are 2-1.
The Bulldogs scored both goals in the first half. The first score came in the 18th minute by Lauren Zuckerman, with an assist from Kelcey Goddard. Nanda McCormick scored the second goal in the 35th minute, with Goddard adding the assist.
The Eagles improved their level of play in the second half, having half of the four corner kicks and four of the nine shots in that stanza.
Eastern had a total of nine shots with senior Cyeeta Mott contributing three, increasing her career total to 90. She is now just 32 away from all-time record holder Beth Russell (2002-05), who had 122 in her career.
The Eagles will play at home Friday (Sept. 14) at 4 p.m. against Cal State Bakersfield. This will be the first all-time meeting between the Eagles and the Roadrunners (0-3).
