It was tied at halftime, but the Eastern Washington University women's soccer team came out to score twice in the second half as the Eagles shutout Northern Colorado 2-0 on Friday (Oct. 6) in Cheney, Wash.

This was the first Big Sky Conference match for either team. The Eagles are now tied atop the standings at (5-7, 1-0).

Melissa Guthrie scored first for Eastern in the 74th minute off a long pass by Morgan Lutgens.

It wasn't needed to secure the victory with less than a minute left, but the Eagles scored again in the 90th minute. The goal came by Shelly Ikerd off an assist by M'ily Reiter.

Eastern outshot the Bears ten to seven for the game. Goalkeeper Tiera Como recorded four saves for the Eagles. Como already holds the shutout record at Eastern and now has 12 in her career.

This is the second straight victory for the Eagles, who also beat Idaho on Tuesday (Oct. 3). This is also the fifth victory of the year for Eastern, which ties the second most wins in a season in Eagle history. Eastern also won five games back in 1997. EWU's record for wins in a season is seven, a feat they have accomplished three times: 2004, 2002, 2000.

Northern Arizona (5-7, 0-1) will travel to the EWU Sports and Recreation Center on Sunday (Oct. 8) to battle in the Eagles in another BSC match. That game will be played at noon.
