The Eagles struck first but were unable to hang on in the second half as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks defeated the Eastern Washington University women's soccer team 3-1 Sunday (Oct. 8) in Cheney, Wash.
This loss snaps a two game win streak for the Eagles and now puts them at 1-1 in the conference and 6-7-1 overall. Eastern and Montana were the only two teams in the Big Sky Conference going into today's matches undefeated. Montana also fell today to Northern Colorado. After the first week of BSC play, every team is at 1-1.
The Eagles were unable to score again as the Lumberjacks did so three times for the victory.
Lindsey Carey scored the first goal of the game for the Lumberjacks right before halftime in the 40th minute. They also got goals in the 47th minute by Cee Cee Odorfer and in the 73rd minute by Katilin Baum. Those goals were assisted by Sarah Neatherton and Kayla Bauder.
NAU outshot Eastern for the match 13 to five and Tiera Como recorded five saves for the Eagles.
Eastern is on the road this week at Portland State Friday (Oct. 13) at 1 p.m. and then again Sunday (Oct. 15) at 2:30 p.m. at Sacramento State.
