The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 road decision to Portland State in a Big Sky Conference game on Sunday morning (Oct. 19).
Scoring Eastern's goal was Lyndsey Martin, the first of her Eagle career. Her tally came at the 67:07 mark when she put in a corner kick from Abby Jensen.
Unfortunately for EWU, Portland State had gained control of the contest prior to that point, quickly earning a 2-0 lead within the game's first nine minutes. A 61st-minute goal made it 3-0 and an 88th-minute score put the final tally of the morning on the scoreboard.
Brittany Sparks had three shots in the game for Eastern, while a trio of players contributed two shots apiece: Jocelyn Bement, Lillian Bourret and April Coffin. Ashley Renz had seven saves, while Jessica Blessard made five saves.
The Eagles (2-10-3, 0-3-1 BSC) now return home for their final three contests of the 2008 regular season. Each of those games is essentially a must-win affair for Eastern, as it aims to return to the four-team Big Sky Championship for the first time since 2005.
First up is Northern Arizona at 3:30 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 24). The Lumberjacks are 8-6-2, 2-1-1 in Big Sky games.
