Eagles Name Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

Aug. 17, 2007

Head coach George Hageage announced on Friday (Aug. 17) that the Eastern Washington University women's soccer team named Julio Morales as new assistant soccer coach.

"A second full-time assistant is going to help out a lot," said Hageage.

"He is an excellent coach, and we are very excited to have him," added Hageage. "He will help both our JV and varsity teams."

He left the University of Montana after serving four years as the team's administrative assistant. Morales also coached the girls' soccer team at Sentinel High School since 1998.

He also served as the head coach of the Montana boys' Olympic Development Program since 2003 after serving on the ODP staff since 1994.

Morales is a 1993 graduate of Gonzaga University. He played there from 1989-93 and was a four-year starter as a central defender.

He started his playing career with the Missoula Strikers Club team in 1982. Morales and the Strikers won two state club championships in his eight-year run with the team.

Morales has a `B' coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation.

"He has already helped us out a little bit because he had the scouting report on our team for the last couple of years," said Hageage. "I thought it was very interesting to let our players hear what some of the schools think about them in terms of what their strengths and weaknesses are and what the other teams in the Big Sky think about Eastern and our style of play."
