46 Selected to Spring All-Academic Team
A total of 46 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the 2011 spring quarter. Of the total, 20 were from the women's outdoor track and field team, 12 from the men's outdoor squad, six from women's tennis, five from men's tennis and three from women's golf.

Eagles Close Out Season with 6-1 Loss to Idaho
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team traveled to Moscow, Idaho for its final match of the 2011 season, but the Eagles could not muster a win in Vandal country, as Idaho took the match 6-1 on Tuesday (April 19). The Eagles finish the 2011 campaign with a 5-18 overall record and 1-7 mark in the Big Sky Conference.

Despite home-court advantage, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team could not come up with a win in its final Big Sky outing of the 2011 season, as the Vikings of Portland State topped Eastern 5-2 on Saturday (April 16) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.

Eagles Wrap Up Big Sky Slate at Home Against PSU
Although out of the running for postseason play, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team is hoping for a positive finish to its 2011 Big Sky season. The Eagles will host Portland State on Saturday (April 16) for their final conference dual of the year. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the EWU Sports & Recreation tennis facility in Cheney, Wash.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis Fall in Flagstaff
The Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled together to Flagstaff, Ariz., for the final road trips of their 2011 seasons. Neither squad could find a way past the Lumberjacks on their home court though, as the men fell, 6-1 and the women, 7-0 on Saturday (April 9) at the Flagstaff Athletic Club East.

Eagles Drop 6-1 Decision to Gonzaga
Meeting for the second time this season, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team unfortunately suffered the same result against the Bulldogs of Gonzaga University. Eastern fell to GU, 6-1 on Wednesday (April 6) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. Eastern also lost a 6-1 match to the Zags on Jan. 26 in Spokane.The Eagles were unable to snap a 11-match losing skid, as the team fell to 5-15 on the season. Conversely, Gonzaga won its sixth-straight match to even its overall record to 9-9.

Ricks and Wall Tabbed as Scholar Athletes of the Month
Freshman Helon Ricks of the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team and Brad Wall from men’s track and field were selected by the EWU athletic department as the April Scholar-Athletes of the Month. This award recognizes the athletic and academic success of student-athletes, based primarily on performances turned in during the previous month.

Eagles Host Gonzaga in Mid-Week Dual Match
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will take a short break from Big Sky Conference action with a match against Gonzaga this Wednesday (April 6) at 3 p.m. in Cheney, Wash.This is the second meeting of the season between the Eagles and Bulldogs. The two teams battled back in January in Spokane, with Gonzaga prevailing in that contest by a 6-1 decision.

Eagles Fall 5-1 in Abbreviated Match with Cal State Fullerton
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip to California with a match against the Titans of Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday (March 23) in Fullerton, Calif. The Eagles and Titans only managed to fit in the six singles matches, as heavy rains in the area interrupted doubles play. The Eagles fell to CSF, 5-1.

Eagles Open Spring Break Slate with 7-0 Loss to Colorado State
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team was able to play just one of two scheduled matches over the weekend due to squally weather in Los Angeles, Calif. The Eagles opened their spring break trip with a match against the Rams of Colorado State on Saturday (March 19) in Fullerton, Calif. Eastern dropped the match to CSU, 7-0. Eastern’s next match, scheduled for Sunday (March 20), against Cal State L.A. was rained out.

Eagles Head to California for Trio of Matches
With finals week winding down, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team will turn its full attention to the courts, as the team prepares for a trio of non-conference matches in California during the week of spring break. The Eagles will play Colorado State in Fullerton, Calif., on Saturday (March 19), followed by matches against Cal State L.A. and Cal State Fullerton on March 20 and 23, respectively.

Freshman Helon Ricks of the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team extended her hot streak in Big Sky Conference play to 5-0, but as a team, the Eagles could not come up with enough wins to beat Montana State, falling 5-2 on Saturday (March 12) at Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. Eastern also lost a narrow non-conference battle with Seattle this weekend, as it fell to the Redhawks 4-3on Sunday (March 13).

The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team dropped a pair of road matches this weekend at Wyoming and Northern Colorado. Eastern was blanked by UW, 7-0 on Saturday (March 5) in Laramie, Wyo., before falling to Big Sky foe Northern Colorado, 6-1 in a highly competitive match on Sunday (March 6) in Greeley.

The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team is hungry for a win. The Eagles won four of their first six matches to open the 2011 campaign, but have faltered as of late, dropping five of their last six, including two in a row in conference. Eastern will look to turn things around this weekend when it heads west to face Wyoming and Northern Colorado.

Grizzlies Handle Eagles, 5-2
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team battled suffered a 5-2 setback at the hands the Montana Grizzlies on Saturday (Feb. 26) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. With the loss, Eastern fell to 5-7 in the 2011 season, and 1-2 in league play, while Montana improved to 5-5 on the season and remained undefeated in Big Sky outings at 3-0.

The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team has only one match on tap this weekend, and it’s against a familiar foe in the Montana Grizzlies. The Eagles will host UM on Saturday (Feb. 26) in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. The match is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. Pacific time.

Eagles Blanked by Utah State
In its final outing of a three-match road swing, the Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team fell to the Aggies of Utah State, 7-0 on Monday (Feb. 21) at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club. The Eagles return to Cheney with a 5-6 overall record in the 2011 season, and a 1-1 mark in the Big Sky. EWU also played its first league matches of the year over the weekend, as the team beat Idaho State, 4-3 on Feb. 19 and dropped a 5-2 decision to Weber State on Feb. 20.

The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team came away from a long day on the Palouse with one win and one loss. The Eagles fell to Washington State, 7-0 before topping Lewis-Clark State College, 6-1. Eastern has now played six matches in the first seven days of the season.

Eagles Fall to Gonzaga, 6-1
The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis suffered its first loss of the 2011 season, falling to Gonzaga, 6-1 on Wednesday evening at the Spokane Racquet Club in Spokane, Wash. Senior Judy Liening was the only Eagle to record a win in singles play, as she topped GU’s Britta Stime, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. With the win at No. 5 singles, Liening remained undefeated (4-0) in the 2011 season.

The Eastern Washington University women’s tennis team was nearly flawless in its 2011 debut, as it swept Whitworth and Whitman and dropped only one point in its match with cross-state rival Seattle. Eastern played Whitworth on Saturday (Jan. 22) at the Scotford Tennis Center in Spokane, and then returned to Cheney for a doubleheader on Sunday (Jan. 23) against Whitman and Seattle.

Eagle Tennis Signs Two High School Standouts to National Letters of Intent
Eastern Washington University head tennis coach Darren Haworth and associate head women’s coach Dale Silha announced the signing of two prep players to national letters of intent for the 2011-12 school year. Moira Hedberg of Oxnard, Calif., and Chrissy Uriate of Las Vegas, Nev., will join the Eagle tennis program as freshmen next fall.

Eagles Claim Five Doubles Wins at UCSB Classic
In its third and final outing of the 2010 fall season, the Eastern Washington University tennis team competed at the challenging UCSB Classic, held Oct. 8-10 in Santa Barbara, Calif. Although the team struggled a bit in singles play, the Eagles recorded five wins in doubles against quality opponents from Cal Poly, BYU and UCSB.

Eagles Prepare to Face Fierce Competition at UCSB Classic
The Eastern Washington University tennis team will send four athletes to the competitive UCSB Classic, held Friday Sunday (Oct. 8-10) in Santa Barbara, Calif. The event will feature some of the top competition in the nation, including four teams who were ranked in the top 75 in the final ITA poll of the 2009-10 season. The Eagles will face off against players from Brigham Young, Cal Poly, Pepperdine, Arizona, Denver and host-school UC-Santa Barbara.

Eagles Poised for Big Sky Debut
After a grueling pre-conference season, the Eastern Washington University soccer team is geared up for the start of Big Sky competition, which begins Friday (Oct. 8) at Portland State. Kickoff for the game at Hillsboro Stadium is scheduled for a 5 p.m. and will mark the first event in the newly created Dam Cup rivalry between Eastern Washington and Portland State. After the showdown with the Vikings, Eastern will head south to take on Sacramento State on Sunday (Oct. 10) at 1 p.m.

The Eastern Washington University tennis team wrapped up play at the EWU/GU Classic, which was held Friday Sunday (Oct. 1-3) at the EWU Sports and Recreation Facility in Cheney, Wash. Despite the absence of two of its members due to some early-season injuries, the Eagles had a solid showing in their first home event of the 2010-11 season.
