Eagles Close Out Season with 6-1 Loss to Idaho

Warner nabs Eastern's lone point in match with commanding win at No. 3 singles

The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team traveled to Moscow, Idaho for its final match of the 2011 season, but the Eagles could not muster a win in Vandal country, as Idaho took the match 6-1 on Tuesday (April 19).

The Eagles finish the 2011 campaign with a 5-18 overall record and 1-7 mark in the Big Sky Conference.

Sophomore Ryann Warner had the best showing for EWU on Tuesday, as the Colorado Springs, Colo., native dominated her opponent at No. 3 singles. Warner topped UI's Silivia Irimescu, 6-1, 6-1 to earn her fourth victory of the season.

Freshman Helon Ricks also played a tough match at No. 5 singles, but could not get past Molly Knox, who came away with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Ricks is the only Eagle who eclipsed double-digit wins this season, as she finished her freshman campaign with a 10-11 overall singles record.

Sophomores Chelsea Patton and Rocio Norena lost their matches at No. 4 and 6 singles by the exact same scores of 6-2, 6-0.

Junior Nefeli Diamanti dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to UI's Victoria Lozano at No. 1 singles, and Judy Liening fell to Lauren Simpson at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1.

Tuesday was Liening's final outing for the red and white, as she is the lone senior on the Eagle roster this year. A native of Federal Way, Wash., Liening earned three letters with the EWU women's tennis team, and finished her career with 24 total singles wins, which ranks among the top 10 in Eastern's career record book.
