Hedberg Earns First Team All-Big Sky Honors For Second Straight Year

Official Release

Ogden, Utah – Junior Moira Hedberg has been named to the All-Big Sky First Team for the second straight year following an impressive junior campaign, as announced by the conference office on Thursday, May 1.

Hedberg was a stalwart at the No. 1 position during Eastern's 2013-14 season, going 10-11 in singles matches, including a 6-4 mark in Big Sky play. She also played in the top doubles position throughout the year, finishing with a mark of 9-10.

"I'm really proud of the way Moira fought through adverse situations all year," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "She battled injuries all season and wasn't 100 percent in many of her matches. She has that extra gear that elite athletes have where she digs down and finds a way to win even with the deck stacked against her. She's a pleasure to coach and I'm excited for what's to come in her senior season."

A native of Oxnard, Calif., Hedberg faced tough opponents in the early going, winning just two of her first five singles outings. She turned it on from there, however, winning four straight matches, including wins over the No. 1 players from Northern Colorado, North Dakota and Idaho State.

Hedberg also finished the year strong, winning three of her last four matches, besting the top players from Montana State, Southern Utah and Portland State.

In doubles, Hedberg teamed up with freshman Erin Blessing for much of the season. The duo won five straight doubles matches in late February and early March, four of which came against Big Sky opponents.

Hedberg joins a group of four returning letter winners to give Hinson an experienced core heading into next season.
