Eastern Defeated by Montana State, 5-2

March 10, 2007

The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team continued its busy weekend with a 5-2 loss to visiting Montana State on Saturday afternoon (March 10). After the Bobcats narrowly took the doubles point, MSU claimed the first three singles matches to finish to seal its victory.

After the initial two doubles contests to complete play were split between the teams, all eyes turned to court two where Eastern's duo of Kerstyn Dolack and Kasey Knox were battling MSU's Nuria Hernandez and Nicole Luetolf. With the score tied, 7-7, the Montana State duo pulled away, securing nine straight rallies at one point and won, 9-7, to secure for its team the doubles point.

Montana State (2-10, 1-1 Big Sky Conference) quickly claimed its win with a trio of straight-sets victories before the tide was stemmed with an impressive performance from Dolack. She prevailed over Katy Proietti in a pair of tight sets and a not-so-close super-tiebreaker, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), (10-1), to record her second singles win in two days.

Earning Eastern's (2-7, 2-2 BSC) second point of the day was Amanda Mankovits, who was able to outlast Remy Clark, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), for her second win of 2006-07. The victory allowed the sophomore to complete a perfect day, as she had teamed with Marie Demerath for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Eagles continue their stretch of three home matches in three days at 2 p.m. on Sunday versus Lewis-Clark State (5-2). The Lady Warriors are ranked 17th in the NAIA ranks and have seen both of their losses come to NCAA Division I opposition: Gonzaga, 6-1, and Idaho, 7-0.
