The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team participated in the GU/EWU Classic over the weekend in Cheney, Wash. A doubles tandem advanced to the semifinal round, while a pair of Eagle singles players were also successful in advancing to that stage of their respective flights.
Caitlin Bampton and Amanda Mankovits defeated Montana's Lauren Gibson and Kayla Moyse 8-3 as well as Portland's Stefanie Doolittle and Anna Gullickson 8-3 before bowing out after an 8-6 defeat to Montana's Martyna Novak and Liz Walker.
In flight 2 singles play, Kelsey Knight topped Alexandra Ulesanu 7-6 (6), 6-4 and Gonzaga's Monica Price 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals. There, she fell to Clare Dodge, also of Gonzaga, by 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 scores.
The flight 3 bracket saw Judy Liening proceed to the semifinal round with a dominating 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Gonzaga's Allyson Lee. She fell to Idaho's Jana Siwa in that round, 6-4, 6-2.
The Eagles now will take off a few weeks from competition before participating in the ITA Regionals from Oct. 17-20 in Stanford, Calif.
