Jan. 19, 2007

In the first indoor track meet of the season Fri. (Jan. 19) night, Eastern Washington University seniors David Paul and Carolee Guiterrez qualified for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships to be held Feb. 23 in Bozeman, Mont.

Paul broke the school record that he set last season of 65-5 1/2 by almost two feet in the weight throw, with a throw of 67-1 1/2. Last season Paul placed second at the indoor championships with a throw of 64-10. The qualifying mark for the men is 53-3 1/2.

Guiterrez, who placed fourth at last year's indoor championships, placed first at this meet with a weight throw of 53-3 3/4, which is good enough to qualify her for the BSC Championships. The qualifying mark for the women is 51-1 1/4.

The 20th Annual Martin Invitational continues Sat. (Jan. 20) at the Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash. Throwing events begin at 9 a.m. and running events will start at 11:30 a.m.
