The Eastern Washington University track and field teams competed this weekend at the WSU Open II (Feb. 22-23) in Pullman, Wash., where Chelsi Friese qualified for the Big Sky Conference Championships (Feb. 29-March 1).
Friese finished the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.16 four seconds better than the qualifying time of 9.20. That time ranks her second on EWU's all-time best list. Her previous best time was 9.44 at the Cougar Indoor Invitational (Jan. 26).
Alli Dittmar had a pole vault mark of 10-0 1/2 to rank her 10th on Eastern's all-time best list. She finished 11th at the meet.
Erica Chaney had a throw of 46-6 1/4 in the shot put to finish third and rank her second on EWU's all-time best list. She already qualified for the BSC Championships with a throw earlier this season of 43-9. She finished second in the weight throw with a throw of 51-11 to rank her eighth on Eastern's all-time best list.
Other top finishers for the women were Shene Davis (200m/26:34), Crystal Williams (60m/8.04 & 200m/26.60), Alex McNairy (200m/26.60), Nikki Buchholtz (mile/5:22.78), monica Prunty (3,000m/10:57.14) and Nicole Luckenbach (weight throw/51-5).
Joshua Jones finished third in the 400 with a time of 50.94. Teammates Jahi McGhee-Rankin placed fifth (51.83), Brandon Lattin was eighth (53.15), Aaron Taylor finished 10th (53.66) and Kyle Ulrey placed 13th (1:08.80).
Ten Eagles met the automatic qualifying standards and will travel to Pocatello, Idaho, for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships.
