Track Season Underway for Eagles

Nicole Luckenbach and Amanda Peterson had personal best throws while Chad Butorac and Cody Irby finished first in their events as the Eastern Washington University track and field teams opened the outdoor season at the Dusty Lane Invitational (March 14-15) in Spokane, Wash.
Luckenbach finished first in the hammer with a throw of 166-2 to rank her sixth in school history. That is a personal best for her after having a previous best of 159-3 in 2006. Luckenbach's teammate Erika Kirley-Price finished second with a toss of 159-3 and Aimee Carroll finished third with a throw of 152-8.
Peterson now ranks seventh in school history in the javelin with a throw of 152-6 to win that event.
Other top performances for the women included Shannon Long (100m/12.76, 200m/25.82), Alex McNairy (200m/26.36, 400m/58.32), Lauren Matthews (800m/2:24.08), Chelsi Friese (100h/15.52), Jessica Duran (high jump/4-9), Allysen Halsen (triple jump/34-4 1/4) and Bonnie Millard (discus/138-1).
On the men's side, Butorac won the 400 meters with a time of 49.13 and finished second in the 200 with a time of 22.16. A sophomore from Northport, Wash., Butorac began his pursuit of the school record of 47.05 set by Hogan Wrixon in 1988. Butorac's current best is 47.19 to rank second in school history.
Irby won the javelin with a throw of 194-8. His personal best throw of 199-1 was set in 2006. He also finished fifth in the hammer with a toss of 158-10.
The Eagles will compete next at the Al Manuel Invitational (April 4-5) in Missoula, Mont.
