Eastern Washington University freshman Brandon Lattin finished eighth in the decathlon and Jessica Duran finished 12th in the women's heptathlon in the combined events portion of the 2008 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday (May 15) in Sacramento, Calif.
Lattin (Kennewick, Wash.) scored a career-best 5,819 points, which ranks him 13th in school history. By placing eighth, he earned the Eagle men's team a point in the championships which continues Friday and concludes Saturday.
Lattin's best events were third in the javelin (176-1), sixth in the 400 meters (52.46) and fourth in the 100 meters (11.42).
Duran (Kent, Wash.) was eighth after the first day before finishing 12th in the women's heptathlon with 4,399 points. She ranks third in school history with 4,506 points, set when she placed eighth at the 2007 Big Sky Championships in Pocatello, Idaho.
Duran had her best marks in the high jump (5-0 1/2/6th), shot put (38-4 3/4/3rd), 200 meters (26.00/6th) and javelin (104-10/6th).
The Big Sky Conference Championships continue tomorrow (May 15), beginning with the women's hammer throw at 1 p.m. Running events will begin at 3 p.m.
