Mattie Bridgmon of the Eastern Washington University women's cross country team placed 64th Monday (Nov. 19) in Terre Haute, Ind., at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
She had a time of 21:16.3 on the 6,000-meter course as she made her first-ever NCAA Championship appearance. Bridgmon is a junior from Laramie, Wyo.
She is the third female from EWU to compete in the NCAA Championships and place better than 70th. Kari McKay placed 69th in 1990 and in 1991 was 33rd. Amber Johnson ran in 1999 and finished 64th.
Bridgmon finished 20th in the 6,000-meter race at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Eugene, Ore., on Nov. 10 with a time of 21:01.35. Last year, Bridgmon finished 69th with a time of 23:08.52.
She was named All-Big Sky as she placed fifth and had a time of 17:58.6 at the Big Sky Conference Championships on Oct. 27 in Missoula, Mont. Last year, she finished 12th with a time of 18:15.8.
