EWU Names Scholar-Athletes for May

June 17, 2008

Cameron Moore and Bonnie Millard have been selected by the Eastern Washington University athletic department as its Scholar-Athletes for the month of May.

Moore showed his prowess in the incredible heat of the Sacramento Valley by claiming the Big Sky Conference triple jump competition with a leap of 47-8 1/2 in his final try, staving off not only his opposition, but temperatures in the 100s. It was just the third triple jump competition won by an Eagle in school history. At the NCAA West Regional Championships, he finished 15th of 17 in that event when he leapt 45-9 3/4. His best mark of the season in that event (47-9 1/4) came at the Beach Invitational. Moore also claimed titles this year at the Al Manual Invitational and the Dusty Lane Invitational. At the 2007 Championships, he finished eighth in the event.

The junior has also shown some impressive academic credentials, having been named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team for indoor track and field in 2005. Cameron is a Spokane, Wash., native and a Ferris High School graduate and is majoring in Business Management at Eastern.

Temperatures in the 100s were not enough to dissuade Millard from defending her discus crown at the Big Sky Conference Championships, as her toss of 152-9 claimed the title, the fourth ever won by an Eagle. At the NCAA West Regional Championships, her mark of 157-11 was the second-best in school history and placed her ninth out of 18. Millard had qualified for the Big Sky Championships with a throw of 154-8 at the Oregon Relays. She also won the discus championship at the Sasquatch Field Events/Distance Carnival with an identical throw.

Millard has shown her academic skills throughout her time at Eastern Washington, having been named to the Big Sky All-Academic teams in both indoor and outdoor track and field each of her first two years on campus. The junior did so once again this year in indoor track and field and is on pace to do so outdoors once the spring lists are released. She also has been named to the Dean's List all nine quarters since she enrolled at Eastern. The Priest River, Idaho, native is majoring in Exercise Science.
