Women's Track Signs Sprinter for 2007-08 Team

Dec. 6, 2006

Shannon Long, who spent last season at the Community Colleges of Spokane, has signed a letter of intent to attend Eastern Washington University and compete for the women's track team in the 2007-08 season.

The 2004 graduate of Richland, Wash., High School won three championships in May 2006 at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Championships. She won the 100 meters (12.48) and 200 meters (25.68, 25.44 in the preliminaries) and the 4x100 relay (48.62). Community Colleges of Spokane won the team title.

"Our strengths are usually in the longer sprints," said Eastern assistant track coach Renee Scott. "But Shannon will not only add depth to our sprint crew but has the ability to come into our program right away and score very high in each event. We are fortunate to have Shannon be a part of our team."
