2010: VanderWel was named to the Big Sky all-Academic team for the second-consecutive year. She played in 14 matches for EWU before suffering a leg injury mid-way through the conference season that sidelined her for nine of the remaining 12 games of the year. She played strong in Eastern’s first tournament of the year, picking up eight digs against Mercer (Aug. 27) and a season-high 11 versus Seattle (Aug. 28). VanderWel had her second double-digit dig performance of the year at Montana (Sept. 17), where she had 10 pickups, to go along with a season-high two service aces.

2009: VanderWel was recognized for superior work in the classroom as a member of the 2009 Big Sky All-Academic team. She worked her way into EWU’s starting lineup in three contests during the 2009 campaign. She recorded a season-high eight digs in a close four-set loss to Portland State (Oct. 9), and had five digs in Eastern’s victory over Nevada (Sept. 4).

2008: From the serving stripe, VanderWel twice recorded four service aces in a match, tied for the second-highest total recorded by any Eagle in 2008. The first such performance came in a 3-1 win over Notre Dame (Sept. 5), and the second helped the Eagles to a 3-1 win over Washington State (Sept. 6). She also registered her first-ever double-digit dig outing with 10 against the Cougars.

High School: VanderWel, a 2008 graduate of Woodinville High School, was a three-time All-KingCo 4A selection. She was named to the first team as a senior, the second team as a junior and received honorable mention accolades during her sophomore season. VanderWel helped the Falcons to second-place finishes in the league her sophomore and junior seasons, and as a team captain her senior year, she helped lead the team to a league title. Woodinville advanced to the state tournament her junior and senior seasons. She played club volleyball for the Washington Volleyball Academy from 2004-08, where she helped lead squads to Junior Olympic championships. She also was a member of the Woodinville gymnastics squad from 2005-07.
