Eagle Volleyball Adds Talented 6-1 Outside Hitter for 2012

With invaluable experience playing both indoor and outdoor, Allie Schumacher takes next step in volleyball career

After a successful prep career at Puyallup (Wash.) High School, Allie Schumacher will be bringing her talents to the east side of the state when she joins the Eastern Washington University volleyball team in Cheney next fall.

Schumacher, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, was a standout with the Puyallup Vikings, while also earning a great deal of success as a junior beach volleyball player.

"Allie is a great athlete, who we know can add a lot to our team," said EWU head coach Miles Kydd. "Ever since she started playing the sport, she's been playing a lot outdoors. That experience with beach volleyball has really made her into an all-around player. She jumps well, she's a good blocker and we have witnessed her ability to be a vocal leader on the court. Over the years, we are confident Allie will be an impact player for us."

Schumacher had a stellar senior season with the Vikings, leading her team to a fifth-place finish at the Washington 4A State tournament. She was named to the 2011 All-Tournament team, and was later selected to play in the 2011 All-State Senior Game.

She is a two-time South Puget Sound League First-Team selection, and in 2011, was named the league's Most Valuable Player.

Outside of her high school season, Schumacher competed in the 2010 and 2011 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships with her club teams. She also qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic Games for beach volleyball in 2008 and 2009, and has finished among the top three doubles teams in several events on the USA Beach Junior Tour.
