59 Selected to Fall All-Academic Team
A total of 59 Eastern Washington University student-athletes have been honored on the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for fall quarter 2012. Of the total, 21 were from football, 18 were from women's soccer, nine from volleyball, six from women's cross country and five from men's cross country.

Two of the top players from the 4A South Puget Sound League will be joining the Eastern Washington University volleyball team next fall. Chloe Watson from Kent-Meridian High School in Kent, Wash., and Sophie Miller out of Todd Beamer High School in Federal Way have signed national letters of intent to play volleyball at Eastern, announced EWU interim head coach Lisa Westlake.

It was not the smoothest preseason, but the Eastern Washington University volleyball team survived, and now looks ahead to conference with sanguinity and excitement. Eastern begins Big Sky play this Thursday (Sept. 13) at Sacramento State. First serve from Colberg Court is scheduled for 7 p.m. Pacific time. The Eagles will then make their home debut the following Monday (Sept. 17) against Portland State.

Eagles Come Up Short Against Iowa State and Syracuse
The Eastern Washington University volleyball team showed improvement with each set played on Friday (Sept. 7) at the Iowa State Challenge, but competition was stiff in Ames, Iowa, as No. 18 Iowa State and Syracuse swept the Eagles, 3-0. Against the Cyclones, Eastern fell 25-10, 25-15, 25-15, while set scores against the Orange were 25-17, 25-21, 25-19. With the losses, EWU falls to 0-10 on the season.

Injuries to both its veteran setters has left the team in a bit of a scramble to fill what is arguably the most important position on the court. Kydd Resigns as Eastern Washington Volleyball Head Coach
Eastern Washington University has announced the resignation of head volleyball coach Miles Kydd, effective Tuesday (Aug. 28). Kydd tendered his resignation for personal reasons.Currently the associate head coach for EWU volleyball, Lisa Westlake will serve as interim head coach for the duration of the 2012 season.

Niemeier Suffers Torn ACL
Although said to be almost impossible, it seems lightning has in fact struck twice on the Eastern Washington University volleyball team. Two weeks before the 2012 season began, senior setter Laney Brown (Waterville, Wash.) suffered an injury to her big toe, which required surgery and has a projected 6-12 week recovery. Luckily, Eastern had two-year starter Lindsay Niemeier (Spokane, Wash.) ready to run offense for EWU.

In the 2012 season opener, the Eastern Washington University volleyball team endured a 3-1 loss at the hands of the San Francisco Dons. But the bigger hit to EWU on Friday (Aug. 24) at the UniWyo Wyoming Invitational was the loss of junior setter Lindsay Niemeier, who went down in the third set with an apparent knee injury.

Eagles Cruise Past Alumni, 3-0
Despite the return of two Big Sky MVPs, the Eastern Washington University volleyball team handled the alumni squad with ease on Saturday (Aug. 18) in the annual alumni scrimmage at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. The 2012 Eagles swept, 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-17), and also won a bonus fourth set by a score of 25-16.

Eagles Tabbed Third in Big Sky Preseason Poll
In the newly expanded Big Sky Conference that now features 11 teams, Eastern Washington was tabbed as one of the top three heading into the 2012 campaign. In the Big Sky volleyball preseason poll, released Monday (Aug. 13) by the league office, EWU was picked third with 71 total points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Q&A: EWU Outside Hitter Britta Forsythe
After a highly successful prep career at North Idaho Christian and Lake City High School, outside hitter Britta Forsythe was recruited to play volleyball for Eastern Washington University. The opportunity to be a Division I student-athlete at a school just 50 miles west of where she grew up was a dream come true. But actually fulfilling this dream has been much harder than anticipated.

The skills camp, geared toward female volleyball players ages 12-18, will run from July 9-11 at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. Eagle Volleyball Announces an Action-Packed Schedule for 2012
With three early-season tournaments and two new conference foes in the mix, the Eastern Washington University volleyball team has a chock-full schedule for the upcoming 2012 campaign.The Eagles will play a total of 31 regular-season matches, and that's at least two more than they've played each year in the last decade. Eastern Volleyball Launches Second Edition of “Play to Stay” Fundraiser
With the 2011-12 school year winding down, the Eastern Washington University volleyball team will now turn its attention to a special fundraising effort in the upcoming season. As of Friday (June 1), the Eagles have officially launched the second edition of their “Play to Stay” Fundraiser, which features a grand prize valued at more than $6,000. And this year, the raffle also includes a second-place prize valued at more than $1,500.

Eagle Volleyball Announces 2012 Summer Camp Dates
Eastern Washington University volleyball has set the dates for the 2012 Eagle Volleyball Summer Camps!The Individual Camp, which focuses on specific positions and related skills, will be July 9-11. Cost is $220 for day campers and $340 for residential. The Team Camp will be held July 16-18, and will provide an opportunity for squads to work directly with coaches and camp counselors on different rotations and team tactics that will prepare them for the upcoming season.
