Sept. 13, 2008
The Eastern Washington University volleyball team rallied late against No. 12 Oregon but fell to the Ducks 25-19, 25-15, 25-22 on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13). The match was part of the Oregon Classic, hosted by the Ducks.
The Eagles (3-5) made it exciting at the end of the third stanza, cutting an imposing 23-18 deficit to 23-22 with a dramatic 4-0 run, the last two tallies coming courtesy of service aces by Emily Bekkering. However, the Ducks (8-1) called timeout and then responded with the final two tallies of the contest to complete their victory over the Eagles.
Hayley Hills had 15 kills for Eastern and hit .300 (15-6-30), her second-best hitting percentage of 2008 (she hit .423 in a 3-0 win over Arkansas on Aug. 30). Chenoa Coviare hit a team-high .400 (5-1-10) in the contest. Ashley Hamilton had 20 assists, while Bekkering contributed three blocks, the first three of the freshman’s Eagle career.
Eastern Washington wraps up tournament play at 4:30 p.m. versus UNLV. The Rebels are 3-5, but handed Baylor (8-1) its first loss of the season this morning by a 3-0 score. UNLV also has a 3-1 road win over Arizona State to its credit.
