Sept. 13, 2008
The Eastern Washington University volleyball team wrapped up the tournament phase of its schedule with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-20 loss to UNLV in its final match at the Oregon Classic on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 13).
What proved to be the difference today was UNLV's ability to put separation between the teams when the score was tied 20-20.
In the first set, the Eagles (3-6) scored two straight points to knot the score 20-20, but the Rebels (4-5) pulled away for a 25-22 win. After UNLV won the second set convincingly, the Rebels turned a 20-18 EWU lead in the third stanza into a 25-20 UNLV victory by closing out the day with seven straight rallies.
Ashley Hamilton had an outstanding match for the Eagles, hitting at a .727 clip (8-0-11) and contributing 26 assists. Allison Reinstein also hit well, as she contributed seven kills and a .235 hitting percentage (7-3-17). Mandy Daniels set the team pace in digs with 10, while Reinstein did so in blocks with four.
The Eagles will now set their sights on a Big Sky Conference title and the beginning of that journey will take place on Thursday (Sept. 18) in Ogden, Utah, where Eastern Washington will face Weber State in a 6 p.m. Pacific Time contest.
