Volleyball Rolls Past Portland State To Sixth-Straight Victory

The Eastern Washington University volleyball team defeated Portland State 3-1 Saturday, making it six wins in a row for the Eagles, handing the Vikings just their second Big Sky Conference loss of the season.


This is the sixth-straight victory for the Eagles, (13-7, 5-5) and with the win and Idaho States loss they move up to fifth in the BSC.


Eastern won the first game by a score of 30-25. The Eagles were up 25-12 when the Vikings scored five straight points and got it to within 29-25, but that was as close as they would get.


In game two, the Vikings took the lead from the beginning and never looked back, winning that game 30-28.


Games three and four however, were all Eastern. The Eagles took game three 30-19 and game four 30-25. Game three was tied at 14-14 until Raelynn Chaffee served and the Eagles won six points in a row to take command.


The Eagles were up by as many as seven points on two different occasions in game four and the Vikings fought back to within three points, at 28-25, but Eastern hung on for the game and the match.


Addie Webster, last weeks Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, recorded her fifth-straight double-double with ten kills and ten digs. Freshman Amanda Yausie also recorded a double-double for the Eagles with 46 assists and 17 digs.


Mandy Daniels led Eastern in digs with 23 and Chrystal Johnson also had double digit digs with 14.


 Kerri Beck led the team in kills with 16, and Brittney Page was right behind her with 15 of her own.


Eastern outhit the Vikings for the match, .247 to .100, and had 14 blocks to their eight.


The Eagles will have a 12-day rest before returning to Big Sky Conference play against Idaho State Oct. 26, in Cheney, Wash.
