The Eastern Washington University volleyball team was selected fourth in the Big Sky Conference according to a vote by the league coaches. Portland State was selected as the preseason favorite to win the title, beating out Sacramento State for the poll’s top spot.

The Eagles are looking to keep alive some incredible streaks this year. Eastern has finished in the top three of the league standings for the past 12 seasons and have advanced to the league semifinals for 11 consecutive years.

Last year, the Eagles were picked fifth but were successful in keeping both those streaks going with an impressive league campaign, finishing 12-4 in conference matches to place third and rallying for a 3-2 win over Northern Arizona in the Big Sky quarterfinals.

Eastern Washington will begin its 2008 campaign with a home exhibition match versus an alumni team at 2 p.m. on Aug. 23. Its regular-season slate begins at 4 p.m. Pacific Time on Aug. 29 versus Denver in the Hilton Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.
