Eastern Washington's Brittney Page and Sacramento State's Lindsay Haupt shared Big Sky Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors after leading their respective teams to 3-1 opening weekends.
The Eagles opened the season with wins over Louisiana Tech, Syracuse and Texas-San Antonio, falling only to Wichita State at the Best Western Volleyball Classic in Wichita, Kan. Page hit .348 in the tournament, with 51 total kills (3.92 per game) and 13 blocks (1.0 per game). The senior outside hitter from Vernon, B.C., was also named to the all-tournament team.
Sacramento State picked up wins over Texas Tech, UTEP and Eastern Michigan, with one loss to New Mexico State at the Sun Bowl Invitational, in El Paso, Texas. Haupt, a middle hitter from Etna, Calif., finished the tournament averaging 3.14 kills and 1.43 blocks per game to go along with a .289 hitting percentage. For her efforts,
Haupt was one of two Hornets named to the all-tournament team.
On Friday, the junior tallied 11 kills and six blocks against Texas Tech, and 15 kills and three blocks vs. New Mexico State. She followed up that effort on Saturday with
12 kills and four blocks against UTEP, and six kills and seven blocks vs. Eastern Michigan. Haupt led the team in blocks in three matches last week, and her 15 kills against New Mexico State was a team best.
