Tickets are now on sale for Eastern Washington University's 29th annual Orland Killin Dinner, Dance & Auction, which will again take place in partnership with the Michael Roos Foundation. On-line ordering of tickets is available for the event which takes place on Saturday, April 24 at the EWU Sports and Recreation Center in Cheney, Wash.
The Roos Foundation previously hosted its own dinner, auction and poker tournament for two years, but joined forces with the EWU athletic department for Killin in 2009. Roos, an All-Pro offensive tackle for the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League, will be on hand for the weekend of festivities. He and his wife, Katherine, recently contributed $500,000 toward the "Red Turf" project at EWU.
Serving as host of the evening is ESPN broadcaster Colin Cowherd, who is a former Eastern journalism student. Silent and live auctions will take place, with an additional auction area for an expanded variety of professional sports memorabilia. Included will be player jerseys, including those worn by Roos and other NFL players.
Prior to the dinner, the EWU football team will play its Red-White Spring Football Game at 2 p.m. at Woodward Field. The women's soccer team will also host its annual Alumni Game at noon at the EWU Sports and Recreation Center. The 23rd Annual Coaches Golf Tournament will take place the day before on April 23 at Indian Canyon Golf Course, but is already nearly filled. Information is available by calling Chris Hansen at 509-359-2307.
Net proceeds benefit areas of greatest need within Eastern Athletics. The event is named in honor of Orland Killin, who along with his wife Bernice helped create the event. Orland was a man immensely dedicated to academics and the integrity of Eastern Washington University, serving as professor, faculty athletic representative and faculty president. He was an Eastern football letter winner in 1941-42.
The Michael Roos Foundation was established to support local non-profit organizations, including EWU's Eagle Athletic Association, Special Olympics in Washington and Boys and Girls Clubs of Spokane County.
Roos, who graduated from Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Wash. in 2000, earned All-Pro honors and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl following the 2008 season.
