Box Score
Facing the Gonzaga Bulldogs for the second time in under a
month, the EWU women's soccer was unable to pull out a victory
Tuesday at the Gonzaga Soccer Field in Spokane, ultimately falling
to the home team 3-0.
Junior goalie Nathalie
Schwery, despite giving up three goals, set a season high with
nine saves in the match.
The contest, EWU's seventh of the season and fourth on the road,
was evenly matched for the better part of the first half, with
Eastern's defense holding off a potent Zag attack throughout.
Five of Schwery's saves came in the first frame.
Gonzaga's Heather Johnson, who ended the match with a pair of
scores, drew first blood in the 31st minute with a 25-yard strike
from the middle of the field that caught Schwery off guard.
Her other goal was the Bulldogs' final one and came in the
53rd minute. The other goal came from Karley Baggerly, who
scored for Gonzaga within three minutes of the start of the second
half.
The Eagles ended the day with six shots, just two of which were
on goal. Hailie
McClure was the only Eastern player to register more than one
shot (2).
A total of 25 EWU players saw action in the contest, the most of
any game thus far in 2013.
This week has the Eastern squad traveling to North Dakota for
the first time in program history, where they will take part in the
Doublewood Inn Classic. The Eagles have two games on the
docket: Friday, Sept. 20 against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and
Sunday, Sept. 22 against host North Dakota State.
